The task at hand was to design a stool inspired by somewhere we consider home, which for me is the Dominican Republic. Although I was born and raised in New Jersey, I spent every Summer in the Dominican Republic, so I consider it a second home. My main inspiration behind this stool was the knit chairs I would see around my grandfathers home, as well as the colors I have captured in photos throughout the years.
To continue with the design process, I decided I wanted to make the seat slightly curved. I first made a "buck model" to visually understand what I was going to make. From there I made a mold to curve the pieces of wood into the seat I wanted. In the images below you see how I went from the "buck model" to the process of making the actual seat and planning out all the holes for the knit tubes to go through.
